How I grow lettuce!
How to grow lettuce from seed!
I save egg cartons, any shallow containers, seed trays, old metal pie dishes, etc.
Make sure the containers have drainage holes in the bottom.
I fill the containers with some potting soil, or my own dirt.
With the back of a pencil I make a trail with the eraser from one end to the next about half an inch deep.
Next I sprinkle the lettuce seeds along the row
Gently pull the dirt over the indentions
Cover with a plastic bag or plastic wrap. (miniature green house!)
Set the containers anywhere warm until they start sprouting, and then place them in the bright light.
As they start to grow thin them out with a pair of scissors
When the plants are about 5 inches high and bushes I plant mine in the ground as long as it’s the last frost. If I need to get them in the ground and its still frosty out I cover the area with clear plastic.
Plant in ground!
If you want to plant right in the ground, make sure it’s the last frost of the year or close to it!
Now just dig up with a shovel, making it nice and soft
I take a stick and make the trail like I did with the pencil how ever long I want it.
Sprinkle the seeds in
Cover lightly with the dirt
Water with a hose with a sprinkle like head on it.
Be sure to label it!
